When Aquarium Goes Wrong
So, my run of getting it right came to a sorry end today. Feeling confident based on my recent tank filled nails I decided to use the proper stuff today and it went so, so bad. I peeled the nail away from the base 3 times and resorted to going back to my old stuff to get the base of the tank on, but even then it was gappy and needed lots of filling.
I finally got a tank built and sealed but it was so lumpy. I tried filing but put a hole in it, so accepted defeat. I tried an Ink glitter today which just sunk to the bottom so Ink glitters are not an option for these designs.
Not wanting to throw the whole thing away I decided to leave gaps in this nail to see what that looked like. I painted with gel but then part cured, so my gel is all lumpy. I added heart stickers with holes in and painted round the holes which also just ended up lumpy.
I finally got it finished enough to top coat, but this nail is awful. This hereby ends the aquarium nails practicing for now. I’m going to leave it for a bit, let my brain settle and then I’ll try again when I’m fresh at it.
I do like how the nail looks with glittery sections, rather than the whole nail being glittery, and the glitter in this one is much more dense so there is never a part where there is no glitter. I added some of the Starla flakes which were much lighter and the contrast of light and heavy particles seemed to have a greater impact so – couple of points I can learn from this going forward. And, this one does fit on my finger nail, so that’s a first. In fact, it’s a bit too far away to be fair, but it’s the first time I have left enough of a gap.
I’ve had to edit the nail image in photoshop to make it presentable for the site – that’s how bad this nail is.
