Reverse Stamping and Gradient Chrome

Reverse stamping and gradient chrome

Ah – reverse stamping – second attempt. Still not successful.

Top row left nail – the first nail I did today, and the best result, but could I repeat it? No I could not.

This is a Guibofu pink for the base and Moyra black stamping gel for the outline. I used Lecente for the white, and CJP Rocket man for the green and Nanas in Jamas for the yellow.

2nd one along – feeling happy with the success of the first nail I went more complicated, and it took me between 1 hour and an hour and a half to achieve these 2 nails. I left the inhibition layer on the 2nd nail, just like the first nail, but this time anywhere with a lot of colour, i.e. the main flowers, refused to stick or bend, and the green leaves smudged. So frustrating. I attached the broken flower and petals as 3D objects, sticking them with a combination of gem glue and Magpie Give Me Strength in clear, before adding top coat. I had to take a break after this as I was so gutted.

For the 3rd nail, top row, I managed to persuade myself to have another go, still using gel for the colours. This one smudged and was nowhere near as good as the 1st attempt – if only I could remember what I did.

Top right, I decided to have another go, but picked a different flower, that hopefully used less colour, and I changed from using the stamping gel for the outline to the foil stamping polish. I also applied foil gel to the nail to give it extra sticking power. I’m counting this one as a fail too – it looks pants. The white just kept shrinking away from the outlines and really peed me off.

So I gave up with reverse stamping for today and moved on to stamping, and chroming.

Bottom left – there are 3 shades of chrome on this, with the darkest on the outside, getting lighter till I reached the centre part of the nail – like a circular gradient. I love how this turned out and I used the new Nailchemy chromes for this. I need a better picture, just of this nail, so you can see the chrome blend as it looks very subtle, but very nice. For all of these I’m using my favourite plate, the Yours is the bar okay plate.

Bottom 2nd – This is a three colour gradient again, but this time with silver in the centre which looks pretty naff, and I wouldn’t do this combo again.

Bottom 3rd – this nail has a blue outer chrome and a pinky purple inner chrome – this chrome palette appears to be holographic chrome which has a beautiful twinkle to the naked eye. Sadly, it isn’t really picked up well by the camera.

Bottom right – again using the holo chrome, this is gold on the outside, and red on the inside. Going for a sort of Christmas feel – it’s not my favourite, but it’s not my least favourite either. These are all on the Nanas in Jamas for the base coat – 2 coats, and I really struggle with light colours – and this is one of those, where I end up with a streaky finish. Although the stamping over the top hides it well.

I’ve lost my right hand little nail, so decided to follow Vo Tino’s example, and paint a nail tip and then apply it once fully painted.

I wanted a nude look with a gold band and stripe and I used a number 8 tip from the Nail Order extra long coffin tips I have. This is Nailchemy Enchanted for the base, and Lecente Prom Date – 2 coats for the glitter. Mine does not look as good as the picture I got the inspiration from, mine is way too thick, probably would have looked better using a glitter detail paint, rather than a polish. But hey, always good to have something to work on. I’ll stick it on my nail tomorrow and take a better photo – one that isn’t blurry would be nice.

And that’s it for today.

Update: Here’s the pinky nail – although still blurry!

I’ve also neatened up the width, cos why not, this is how I wish it looked.

I’ve been using this top coat over chrome and there is a faint sparkle to it now, which I think looks really lovely – it’s a delicate, super sparkly twinkle.

I really didn’t think I could be bothered to write much today, and this is one of my longest posts so far, if not the longest, so whoohoo, glad I sat down to stick it on the blog.
