Marble Gel Nails

Marble gel nails

Kicking off February with more marbling practice.

For this set of nails I tried a different technique. These are all painted with 2 thin coats of Lecente white as a base layer.

Initially I decided to add a third layer of white and leave this wet. I used Lecente white, and CJP Shroom, Miss Molly and Velvet Teddy for the marble colours, and added Lecente Prom Date for the glitter, which is a gorgeous pink and gold glitter.

These are in order of attempt, starting top left and ending bottom right.

Top left: I love the look, probably could do with being able to see more white, but it looks like a marble. It’s so, so thick though.

Top centre: I really tried to work on my thickness and it’s a much better size nail. I like the marble too, but maybe too much glitter on this one?

Top right: I think that by this nail I have started to use blooming gel instead of the wet white layer. I love this one, but we’re back to being mega chunky again.

Bottom left: This time I decided to incorporate Hera flakes from Hona, I think I should have broken them up though a bit more.

Bottom centre: Look at that glitter!

Bottom right: I added some foil gel and a Lecente pink holo foil. I’ve just given up on thickness at this point though.

For the last nail, far right, I thought I would try an ombre in Light Elegance, using Longboard and Pink Peppermint. Yeah, nope, they aren’t mixing together well at all. It looked so bad I decided to stamp it with Moyra foil stamping polish in white and apply glitter to the foil gel, trying to hide the dodgy ombre.

I used Ink glitter in Westley – a pale blue holo glitter – over the pink, and the Magpie 10th Anniversary glitter, which is pink, over the blue. The Westley is super fine compared to the Magpie and gave a totally different finish. For me, the finer glitter gives a better finish and it’s much easier to see the Damask pattern from the Yours, Is the Bar Okay plate.

So, although I didn’t set myself a January nail challenge, I did manage to practice something every day, and post every day too. I’m hoping to do the same again this month.
