Glitter Gels Layered

Glitter gel experiments

Didn’t really have an idea of what to do today, so had a look through the catalogue and remembered that I wanted to play a bit more with the Magpie Halloween glitters. So grabbed Celestial Sky – which is my favourite ever blue – blue with a subtle but gorgeous shimmer. Over the top I added one layer of Petrol Head. It looks amazing, and it’s a chameleon glitter gel, so in different angles it shimmers with blue / purple.

So this is the base I’ve used for the first nail. Then I added silver marbling effect in silver stamping gel, added silver spider gel, and there’s a blue gem and silver caviar beads top left. Not that you can tell.

Second nail is the same base, stamped in silver and then chromed silver. So much more shiny than the silver stamping polish. I’ve used Moyra’s white foil stamping polish which picks up the details perfectly.

Third nail is CJP Vivid Violet base – it took 3 thin layers to get to a nice colour, with Magpie Dragonfly layered over the top – again, an amazing finish with the chameleon effect. Still not sure of what to do, I stamped and chromed, as before, to compare the two looks and backgrounds.

For the fourth nail I found a frame stamp from the Moyra Scrabble plate, so I used Vivid Violet for the base colour, but this time coated it with Petrol Head. I also left this one matte. I stamped the frame and chromed in gold this time, then decided to create my own moonstone gem in the centre.

I painted black Moyra foil stamping gel in the middle and cured. Then I added a Born Pretty pinkish magnetic gel, and totally fucked up the magnetising. So, yeah, that definitely needs more practice.

For the last nail in today’s set I went back to the Celestial Sky base colour, but this time topped with a layer of TGB Oceania. Nice, and lovely to look at.

This time I went for a smaller frame, and filled the space in the middle with one large centre crystal surrounded by smaller crystals. I added a gem at the bottom so there was another element to the practice session. This time the smaller frame has been foiled – and it’s shinier than the chroming, so there’s an example of each metallic option available.

Me, being a complete magpie, much prefer the foil finish. It’s so much more like actual gold than the metallic stamping polish and the chrome.

I made the last nail matte, and then made the frame shiny. But then I decided it looks better shiny, so re-top coated in the shiny no wipe top coat.

Not a bad little session today. I think I prefer lighter colours, the light blues and pinks and purples catch my eye much more than the darker colours. It’s always good to try things outside your comfort zone though.

TTFN.
