Aquarium Nails – take 3
Definitely getting faster now at constructing these. Different techniques tried this time, and a stiletto nail shape.

As you can see above – these still don’t fit my nails. I just am really struggling to seal this top end which means it ends up being really thick and coming down into the actual nail area.
This time I decided not to colour, foil, or apply stickers to the back of the nail, I just left it clear and painted the neon yellow on the outside of the back at the end, just before the final top coat layer.
Note to self: stiletto nail shapes do not stay upright once filled because of the point at the bottom.
This time I applied rhinestone glue to the edge of the nail and used this to glue it to the back I had made. This didn’t work. The glue just moved away and ended up with more gaps than before, so technique one is superior.
I tried to create a shelf that I could fix to the back to aid with sealing the nail at the nail bed end. This helped, but needs to be a better shape next time. I need to start off with a larger piece and clip it down and use a less runny glue to fix it so I can then seal the edges. The way I did it ended up messy and too thick.
For this glitter I only needed one scoop because there was so much less volume in the tank. I used Magpie Starla – a sliver flakes glitter which works well in this liquid. I thought I had left a small air bubble at the top, but the size of the bubble at the top of the nail is very much larger when the air bubble heads down to the pointed end making the tank look half empty, so maybe need a filling piece with a small hole that I can inject the fluid into for stiletto nails. That way I should be able to fill it closer to the top and not have such a big air bubble.
These tips are the Nail Order XL Stiletto and they are still a bit short to be honest. I filed this one much more robustly than the others to get the nails neat along the side edges – getting cocky and fully expected it to break and start leaking, but it managed to hold up.
I painted yesterday’s nail before photographing which hid the join, so this time I’ve posted before trying to blend the clear part into the coloured part. I’ll add to this post if I do decide to paint a design on it. I do love this effect though, and will be spending more time honing my skills until I can produce a good quality set of aquarium press on nails for my stash.

Above – three different shots of the same nail.
